Description
SOURCES SOUGHT: DESIGN FOR A FISH BARRIER DEVICE. This is a request for source information with no monetary or projected date of use placed on the information. The Forest Service is looking for a design for a fish barrier device that prevents all fish life history stage from being injured or entrained as a result of diverting water. The criterion for such a device is as follows: (1) Inexpensive per unit (hundreds to low thousands of dollars). (2) Able to function in small mountain streams with a variety of channel shapes from (v-shaped to u-shaped) and substrate compositions (silt/organic to boulder/bedrock). (3) Able to function over a range of high and low channel flows. (4) Able to function when both small and large portions of the total channel flow are being diverted (i.e. 0.25 cfs diverted out of a total of 20 cfs in the channel or 3.5 cfs diverted out of total 4 cfs in the channel). (5) Able to be installed with little ground disturbance. (6) Able to regulate the amount of water being diverted through the device. (7) Prevents small and large aquatic organisms (mainly fish) from being diverted down the diversion ditch. (8) Is not made of toxic materials. (9) Prevents small and large aquatic organisms (mainly fish) from being trapped on or in the diversion parts. (10) If the device is a screen then it meets NOAA Fisheries screen criteria. (11) Able to function year around in locations that have 100 Degree F summers and -20 Degrees F winters. Including deep snow. (12) Doesn't require excess water to be diverted in order to make the barrier device to function. (13) Able to work over a wide range of diversion amounts (0.25 cfs to 7-8 cfs). (14) Can be transported to the site and assembled without the use of heavy equipment. (15) Requires little maintenance. NAICS Code: 541990. Size Standard: $6.5 Million.
