- Description
- The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM), Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center (AMRDEC), Redstone, Arsenal, AL, is seeking domestic sources of information on technology that can be applied in the engineering, design, and development of a Smart Rocket Launcher for the 2.75 inch family of rockets. The purpose of this request is to identify characteristics of future launchers and Rocket Management Systems that would enhance and provide better cap abilities for fuze operation. These characteristics may include; but not be limited to, interfaces, controls, power requirements, protocols, and hardware. Listed below are some examples of the options that may be used in future 2.75 inch systems: a. Seeker or guidance (Laser, I2R, MMW, GPS, INS, multimode, lock-on-before launch, etc). b. Data updates (prelaunch, postlaunch) via RF, optical or wire lines, or any other means. c. Multiple fuze modes: Multipoint simultaneous/nonsimultaneous initiation; Proximity; Point detonate; Point detonate with delay; Other options to be determined. d. Zone less firing of rockets e. Rocket configuration identification f. Compatible with legacy family of 2.75 inch rockets g. Rapid initialization and launch of multiple rockets (approximately 15 seconds between firings) h. Prelaunch power application to guided rockets i. Accommodate possible future requirement for rocket motor arming circuitry j. Modification of existing Navy 2.75 inch launchers to include umbilical signals/power k. Other options to be determined. The base line requirements are: 1. SAFETY CRITERIA. Must comply with applicable safety standards. The AMRDEC can define the relevant safety standards for specific suggested technologies upon request. 2. TRADE OFFS. Suggestions must address realistic constraints in the following areas: a. Cost (using constant FY07 US dollars) b. Physical volume c. Mass properties (mass, center of mass, and moments of inertia) d. Ability to withstand military storage, transportation, and use environments e. Producibility, using the US industrial base f. Logistical support g. Reliability h. Training i. The ability to incorporate changes in the state-of-the-art of available technology, including upgrades through spare at the line replicable unit (LRU) level j. Durability (the ability to withstand repeated loading, unloading, and rocket firings). 3. Interfaces must be compliant with the DoD Global Information Grid and applicable federal IT acquisition requirements. Open system architecture is preferred. 4. Must be capable of being integrated and operated on US military aircraft, to include rotary wind, fixed wing, and unmanned systems. Interested and capable sources are asked to submit a white paper using standard font, size 10 or 12, with one inch margins, and containing a description of appropriate suggestions. Information on available, emerging, or needed technologies and how these t echnologies could be applied to this project should also be included. RFI responses are to be received no later than 1700 hours (CST), 28 February, 2006. All information must be in writing. Responses to this request for information may NOT be submitted via facsimile or by electronic means; any so sent will be disregarded. Telephone requests for additional information will not be honored. You may send five (5) copies of written responses to the attention of US Army Aviation and Missile Command, AMSAM-AC-RD-RB, Bldg 5400, Redstone Arsenal, AL, 35898-5280, ATTN: Ms. Ruth Wood ham or via the following e-mail address: ruth.a.woodham@redstone.army.mil Technical questions can be addressed to Mr. Rick Kulbacki, US Army RDECOM, AMRDEC, Propulsion and Structures Directorate, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898, telephone (256) 876-9165, or e-mail: rick.kulbacki@us.army.mil.
