The following answers are provided in response to questions: 1. The reference to the 1-1/2 inch vinyl tex backing. Putting a backing on a cover like this is very common, it reinforces the holding of the snaps. Normally we use an 1-1/2 inch poly pro webbing. I called several suppliers and no one was aware of any product called vinyl tex. Answer: Poly pro webbing meets the vinyl tex or equal backing requirement per item descriptions 1 and 2. 2. We would appreciate it if you could clarify the weight of the mesh. The specifications mention that the mesh needs to have a minimum 8 oz per square yard polyester mesh; however, the specifications later say that the weight of the mesh must be between 6-12 ounces per square yard. We would appreciate it if you could let us know what the difference in the two different weights is. What weight specification is required? Answer: The weight of the mesh shall be between 6-12 ounces per square yard. Reference item description changes made in this Amendment. 3. What specific Flame Retardant standard/certification does the mesh need to meet? Answer: There is no specific flame retardant standard/certification requirement. The level of flame retardant provided shall comply with Industry Standards for the mesh material. 4. Regarding item description, it states half inch hem with vinyl tex backing. I understand this to be for reinforcement purpose and recommend Mil Spec Herculite (vinyl laminated). Answer: Mil Spec Herculite meets the vinyl tex or equal backing requirement per item descriptions 1 and 2. 5. If I am reading the solicitation correctly then we will send one set each as samples. For the remaining numbers, I am reading that each set must be individually packaged to facilitate easy shipping from the USCG warehouse. Am I reading this correctly? Answer: Yes, that is correct regarding both the samples, and packaging for remaining sets. 6. What is Vinyl Tex Backing? Answer: Provide backing normally used with polyester or vinyl mesh. 7. Does the Vinyl Tex Backing need to be Flame Retardant? If so, what specific Flame Retardant specification/standard does it need to meet? Answer: No. 8. What is the required weight of the Vinyl Tex Backing? Answer: No required weight but should be suitable for mesh material weight. 9. What is the required color of the Vinyl Tex Backing? Answer: Gray or black. NOTE: THIS NOTICE WAS NOT POSTED TO FEDBIZOPPS ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (14-DEC-2006); HOWEVER, IT DID APPEAR IN THE FEDBIZOPPS FTP FEED ON THIS DATE.
