Description
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION - Product Manager, Soldier Survivability (PM-SSV) is seeking information regarding the availability of ballistic resistant faceshields and maxillofacial protection devices. This notice constitutes a Request for Information on ly, THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION, no award will be made for this effort at this time. BACKGROUND: PM-SSV is conducting a market survey to determine the availability of commercial or modified commercial products that can provide a level of protection against face, mouth and jaw injuries due to fragmentation, spall and debris from exploding mines and grenades. After review and evaluation of industry's submissions, samples of the most promising candidates may be procured for field testing to determine suitabil ity for Army use. DESCRIPTION: The Army seeks products that meet the requirements outlined. (1) Faceshields and protective devices must provide protection against blast and fragmentation. (2) Faceshields and protective devices must be compatible with and capable of being mounted to the Armys Advanced Combat Helmet (without modification). (3) Devices must be compatible with existing military eye protection or provide protection to the eyes from sun, wind and dust. (4) Devices must weigh no more than 2 p ounds. (5) Faceshields and protective devices should be easily donned and doffed. (6) Devices shall remain operable in a predominantly sand and dust environment without any additional support requirements. At this time, PM SSV is seeking sources, techni cal and product information for faceshields and maxillofacial protection. This market survey is for informational purposes only; this is not a Request for Proposal (RFP). All interested firms, regardless of size, are encouraged to respond to this RFI by s ubmitting product literature, technical specifications, pertinent test data, cost, material safety data sheets (if applicable), and product availability. Please only submit information on products that are currently commercially available or products that are in the final stages of development and will be available for purchase and delivery NLT 15 April 2007. (Prototypes must be demonstrated, and initial ballistic resistance test data available, NLT 9 Feb.) Products must comply with the Buy American Act. Proprietary information will not be disclosed outside the US Government. The Government will not pay for information received in response to this RFI and is in no way obligated by the information received. Inclusion in this RFI or the resulting database d oes not constitute Department of the Army approval for any product.
