- Description
- The Army has a need for a standardized helicopter rinse system to be used in performing the daily fresh water rinse required when aircraft are exposed to corrosive environments and is seeking domestic sources of information on technology that can be applied to this requirement. The Joint Service Aircraft Weapon Systems Cleaning and Corrosion Control Technical Manual, TM 1-1500-344-23-2, requires that aircraft which operate in low level or extended flight over salt water be rinsed daily with fresh w ater. Presently, there is no standardized system/method available for fresh water rinsing. This leads to a wide variation in procedures and equipment that can damage aircraft or lead to improper cleaning. The general operational requirements for the hel icopter rinse system are as follows: (a) No Water Intrusion into Unanticipated Areas During Rinse (b) Maximum Nozzle Pressure-60 PSI Underside; 60 PSI Side Nozzles; 90 PSI Over The Top of Rotor System Nozzles (c) Spray Pattern-No Direct Stream Impingement ; Fog/Mist/Rain Droplet Size Underside and Sides; No More Than That of Rain Droplets Over The Top of Rotor Systems; (d) Closed-Loop System with Water Capture/Reuse (e) Filtration-Remove All Heavy Metals; Remove Oil, Hydraulic Fluid, Grease; Remove Sodium; Filtered Water Must Meet Table 2-1 Water Quality Guidelines of TM 1-1500-344-23-2 (f) Capable of Rinsing All DoD Helicopters (g) Capable of Rinsing a Surge of Aircraft with 3-5 Minute Cycle Time (up to 96 Rinses per 24 Hour Period) (h) Capable of Pumping 800-1000 Gallons of Water on an Aircraft in 1 Minute (i) Capable of Rinsing Helicopters With Engines and Rotors Turning (j) Capable of Concentrating and Storing Waste At the Pad for Disposal In Accordance With Local, State and Federal Standards (k) Maximu m Reliability & Minimal Maintenance (l) No Component of The Systems Will Exceed 48 Inches Above Existing Ground Level 150 From System Centerline (m) Nozzle Configurations And Firing Order Applicable To Each Mission Design Series (MDS) of Rotary Wing Aircra ft (n) Automatic Detection of Aircraft MDS When It Arrives at The Rinse System (o) Automated Operation, Controlled and Instrumented To Allow Remote Operations As Well As On-Site Operations (p) The System Should Be Capable of Processing Initial and Replenis hment Water Charge From Any Source (q) The System Should Meet FAA and Army Air Field Regulations and Their Operations, To Include Helicopter Movement. (r) The System Should Meet Operational Requirements For Operation In An Explosion Hazard Environment. Interested and capable sources are asked to submit a white paper using standard font, size 10 or 12, with one inch margins, and Adobe Acrobat PDF format containing a description of appropriate technologies that they possess, or are conducting, and how thes e technologies could be applied to this project. Drawings/sketches of the rinse system shall also be included. RFI responses are to be received no later than 1700 hours (CST), 16 February, 2006. All information must be in writing. Responses to this req uest for information may NOT be submitted via facsimile or by electronic means; any so sent will be disregarded. Telephone requests for additional information will not be honored. You may send five (5) copies of written responses to the attention of US Ar my Aviation and Missile Command, AMSAM-AC-RD-RB, Bldg 5400, Redstone Arsenal, AL, 35898-5280, ATTN: Ms. Ruth Woodham or via the following e-mail address: ruth.a.woodham@redstone.army.mil Acknowledgement of receipt will be issued if request for return rec eipt is included with response.
