- MARKET SURVEY COMPUTER TO PLATE SYSTEM #MS-07-00456 The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Aeronautical Charting Office, has a requirement for a Computer to Plate System. The National Aeronautical Charting Office, located in the FAA, compiles, prints, and distributes the nation's visual and instrument aeronautical charts and related publications. These charts and publications allow civil and military aviators to safely and efficiently navigate throughout the United States' National Airspace System. They also produce digital and analog charts and computer displays used by the FAA's air traffic controllers, and assist FAA with the redesign of the nation's airspace. In support of marine transportation, they print and distribute the nation's nautical charts compiled by the National Ocean Service's Office of Coast Survey. They also distribute the nautical and aeronautical charts offered for public sale by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency. The Reproduction Division provides prepress services, printing, and finishing for FAA's aeronautical and NOAA's nautical charts and maps. The production elements of the division include production management, negative engraving, quality assurance, photography, lithography, typesetting, platemaking, pressroom, and finishing operations. (Many aeronautical charts have a 28 day revision cycle and are printed on a extremely tight schedule to ensure they contain the latest changes). The requested Computer to Plate System unit would function to efficiently prepare plates for printing Aeronautical Charts and other related products.
