Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award on a sole source basis a Purchase Order to University of Ghana Medical School, Accra, Ghana. The vendor will provide services to train healthcare professional in 10 administrative districts of Ghana on the pharmacovigilance of SP (used for preventing malaria in pregnancy) and ACTs; complete supervisory/monitoring visits to the above mentioned 10 districts to collect ADR reports and to gather data on pharmacovigilance activities (i.e. quality of reporting etc.); identify a core group of health care professionals to serve as trainers of pharmacovigilance and conduct a training of trainers workshop; investigate overall awareness of pharmacovigilance, specifically for antimalarials, among health professionals in these 10 districts; identify and examine the factors underlying low reports of ADRs to sulphadoxine-phyrimethamine (SP) used for intermittent preventive treatment during pregnancy (IPTp); develop a strategy for institutionalizing reporting of medical product safety concerns as part of the national maternal health program; develop a simple manual for identification and management of ADRs. The University of Ghana Medical School represents the only pharmacovigilance center in country with adequate expertise to fulfill the required scope of work and to efficiently collaborate with the National Malaria Control Program. By virtue, the University of Ghana Medical is uniquely qualified and capable of carrying out the requirement of this proposed purchase order. The anticipated award date is January 22, 2007. This is not a request for competitive proposals and no solicitation is available. Firms that believe they can provide this requirement are encouraged to identify themselves and give written notification, as well as, a capability statement to the contracting office by 12:00 p.m. eastern standard time January 22, 2007. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed actions based on responses to this notice is solely within its discretion. Information will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
