Description
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) plans to procure on a sole source basis with Alphamed Inc., 20 Juniper Ridge Road, Acton MA 01720 for three (3) Ra-224 Isotope Generators with additional processing to remove stable Pb. The North American Industry Classification System code is 325413 and the business size standard is 500 employees. The Radiation Oncology Branch (ROB) oversees a laboratory and a patient treatment clinic. The ROBs focus is on the treatment of cancer cells using radiation while trying to protect the normal cell tissue. The laboratory area uses isotope material as part of the ongoing radiation experiments. The chemistry section of the ROB has been working with radiochemicals and isotopes in their projects and collaborations for the clinic, laboratory, and NIH community for many years. There is a tremendous need to have stable chemicals and isotopes in these ongoing projects. One of the isotopes used is Ra-224. This isotope is under exclusive control of AlphaMed via a contract with the Department of Energy. This contract gives exclusive rights to AlphaMed to extract Ra-224 from Thorium-228, which is a by-product left over from the production of weapons. There is no other source known to the NCI that can provide this product. This notice is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform the requirement. No faxed or emailed capability statements will be accepted. Contractor shall provide one (1) original and one (1) copy of the capability statement. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:00 PM EST, on February 20, 2007. All questions must be in writing and can be faxed or emailed to: Malinda Holdcraft, Contract Specialist via electronic mail at holdcram@exchange.nih.gov or fax 301-402-4513. It is the vendors? responsibility to ensure all questions have been received in the contracting office. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect calls will be accepted. In order to receive an award, contractors must be registered and have valid certification in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) and the Online Representations and Certifications Applications (ORCA). Reference: NCI-70030-NG on all correspondence.
