Description
This is a sources sought notice and NOT a Request for Proposal. The purpose of this announcement is to determine the potential of qualified Offerors that can provide a Buff Variegated Sandstone as a match to historic Aquia Creek Sandstone for the restoration and repair of historic cemetery headstones at the Historic Congressional Cemetery, 1801 E Street SE, Washington, D.C. The National Park Service, Historic Preservation Training Center's requirement of the Offeror is to provide the following material requirements: All sandstone shall be of standard architectural grade, free of cracks, seams, starts, or other traits that may impair its structural integrity or function; Flat sawn, honed finish on all six sides to approximate dimensions identified below. Dimensional tolerances shall be within 1/8" on all sides and surfaces as inspected with a 4' measure in any direction; Clean and smooth finished surfaces on all sides 96% free of inclusions, damage, flaws, defects and surface imperfections; and all material graining shall be in the horizontal direction. The Government will require large amounts of the material with quantities ranging from a minimum of 20 pieces to a maximum of 100 pieces of each Item. Stone Dimensions for each item listed are length x width x height. Item Number 1, Capstone Sections 24" x 24" x 12"; Item Number 2, Upper Body Stone Sections 30" x 30" x 30"; Item Number 3, Lower Body Stone Sections 48" x 48" x 11 1/2" or 24" x 48" x 11 1/2"; Item Number 4, Base Stone Sections, 66" x 66" x 12" or 33" x 66" x 12"; and Item Number 5, Inserts for panel repairs 20" x 20" x 1". Photographs of representative historic samples of Aquia Creek Sandstone showing the most extreme cases of variegation are available at: http://www.nps.gov/training/hptc/hptc.htm under Preservation Services, Solicitations. At the written request of the Offeror, the Government will provide a 6"x 6" x 1" sample of the sandstone to be matched. A written request for a sample shall be sent in writing via Email to: sheila_rushlow@nps.gov, no later than February 14, 2007. Requests must include: Company name, Point of Contact, Federal Express Mailing Address, and telephone number. Requests after this cut-off date will not be considered. Responses to this announcement shall be sent in writing, no later than 12:00 p.m. on February 23, 2007 to: Sheila Rushlow, Contracting Officer, Historic Preservation Training Center, 4801A Urbana Pike, Frederick, MD 21701 Response shall include: (1) At least two sets of samples of the various kinds of sandstone. At a minimum, sample sizes shall be 6" x 6" x 1", and represent the finish, texture and anticipated range of colors to be supplied. Selection for comparable sandstone shall be based on color variations and stone characteristics, uniform grain size and general material composition. (2) Provide all technical data, laboratory material data and test result report(s) as required for architectural grade building material; (3) Demonstrate the ability to provide the material identified with the listed dimensional requirements in a timely manner; (4) Identify either in-house or subcontractor capability to provide all handling, packing and freight requirements for shipping to: Congressional Cemetery, Washington, D.C. and a Stone Cutters facility which has yet to be determined. The exact location of the Stone Cutter's facility will be identified in the resultant solicitation document.
