Description

THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT ANNOUNCEMENT. THERE IS NO SOLICITATION AT THIS TIME. TACOM-RI is seeking to identify potential sources that have the capability to manufacture an improved version of the current towbar, which consists of fixed and moveable l egs and is used to tow disabled lightweight military vehicles up to 49,000 pounds. The current towbar has four major characteristics: 1) It weighs 250 pounds, including shackles and all components. 2) It has a capacity to tow wheeled vehicles in a wheel down configuration up to and including 49,000 pounds gross weight. 3) It has a capacity to tow wheeled vehicles in a lift tow configuration up to and including 39,000 pounds gross weight. 4) It consists of nine component parts. 5) It can be connected to a variety of light and medium weight vehicles used by the U.S. Army and other services and be ready to tow within 15 minutes. TACOM-RI is looking for a new approach, technology, composite material and/or design that will improve upon the four elements listed above.
