Description
20-Feb-07 REQUEST FOR INFORMATION U.S. Army RDECOM Acquisition Center, Natick, MA on behalf of the United States Marine Corps (U.S.M.C.) is seeking information regarding industrys interest, capability, methodology and utilization regarding the recycling and reuse of the following material s used in various types of body armor and equipment as described below. This notice is constitutes a Request for Information only, THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION, no award will be made for this effort at this time. This RFI is issued for the purpose of devel oping a viable solicitation that will best communicate the Government's requirements to industry. Response to this RFI is strictly voluntary and will not affect any corporation's ability to submit an offer when a solicitation is released. There is no bid package or solicitation document associated with this announcement. The requested information is for planning purposes and does not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that a procurement action will be issued. No entitlement to payment by the Government of direct or indirect costs or charges will arise as a result of the submission of contractors' information. The Government shall not be liable for or suffer any consequential damages for any improperly identified proprietary information. Pro prietary information will be safeguarded in accordance with the applicable Government regulations. GENERAL INFORMATION: Body Armor Demilitarization, Material Salvage and Recycle. The purpose of this announcement is to determine industrys interest, capabil ity, methodology and utilization regarding the recycling and reuse of the following materials used in various types of body armor and equipment: ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) (woven and unidirectional films), para-aramid (woven and uni directional films), ceramics such as silicon carbide (SiC), boron carbide (B4C), and aluminum oxide (Al2O3). Some materials are in assembly form and would have to be separated. Relevant NAICS Sectors: 562 Waste Management and Remediation Services, 327 No nmetallic Mineral Product Manufacturing, 314 Textile Product Mills. CLASSIFICATION CODE: P-Salvage Services (Preparation and disposal of excess and surplus property). The Government will evaluate submitted information to determine future direction and development of an acquisition plan for required services. Responses amd submission of any information are due NLT 21 MARCH 2007.
