- Description
- INTRODUCTION - The California Institute of Technology?s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), operating under a prime contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), seeks to identify potential sources interested in responding to a Request for Information (RFI) for Commodity Website Monitoring Services in support of the Laboratory?s Computing & Networking Enterprise. The Laboratory is NASA?s primary center for unmanned exploration of the solar system. BACKGROUND: JPL has more than two hundred (200) public-facing websites under the jpl.nasa.gov domain. Web servers supporting these sites include Apache, Sun and IIS. The hosting environment is heterogeneous, including Solaris, Linux and Windows. REQUEST FOR INFORMATION: This RFI proposes to obtain releasable information from major commodity website performance and availability monitoring service providers regarding their direct experience with providing commodity performance and availability monitoring services for web sites for private companies and/or government. The consolidated information received will be considered in determining JPL?s approach to public-facing website monitoring, including whether JPL could realize advantages in cost or service by purchasing commodity web monitoring services instead of self-providing. KEY REQUIREMENTS: We respectfully request a direct but concise response to the following twenty-four (24) key points regarding your company?s web monitoring service: (1) Site provisioning process; (2) Management dashboard/control console; (3) Central management of multiple sites; (4) Delegated (multi-user) management capability; (5) Standard online reports and online graphs for both performance and availability; (6) Report delivery mechanisms and options; (7) Data retention period; (8) Data export/download ability (example CSV for Excel); (9) Notification mechanisms (e.g. e-mail, text messaging (SMS), pager); (10) Notification escalation; (11) Alert threshold configurations; (12) Screen capture of errors/failures; (13) Number and geographical distribution of your monitoring servers; (14) Off-the-shelf monitors; (15) Custom monitor capability; (16) Monitoring intervals and configurability; (17) Retry logic and false alarm prevention logic; (18) Standard and optional ports monitored; (19) Technical support; (20) Data security; (21) Site de-provisioning process; (22) Disengagement; (23) Service Level Agreement (SLA); and (24) Cost and features of monitoring plans offered. WHO MAY PROPOSE? This opportunity is open to educational institutions; Nonprofit, nonacademic organizations (i.e., a private or government supported research lab, university consortium, etc.); IT Industry; Other government agencies (i.e., any non-NASA, U.S. federal executive agency, national laboratory or Federally Funded Research & Development Center (FFRDC). RESPONSES DUE: All responses to the RFI are due no later than April 13, 2007 to JPL, Attention: Business Opportunities Office, M/S 190-205, 4800 Oak Grove Drive, Pasadena, CA 91109-8099 or via email to maryhelen.ruiz@jpl.nasa.gov TECHNICAL POINT OF CONTACT: All questions of a technical nature pertaining to this RFI shall be directed to Douglas Hughes at (818) 354-1186 or via Email: douglas.s.hughes@jpl.nasa.gov DISCLAIMER: It is emphasized that the requested information is for preliminary planning purposes only and does not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that JPL will solicit you for such procurement in the future. Neither JPL nor the Government will be responsible for any costs incurred by you in furnishing this information. Prospective contractors are advised that any information provided shall be deemed to be furnished with unlimited rights to JPL, with JPL assuming no liability for the disclosure, use, or reproduction of such data.
