Description
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are seeking potential vendors under Simplified Acquisitions Procedures for transcribing publications into Braille under the NAICS code 323119. The project is being set aside for small businesses. Contractor shall transcribe and estimated 4 to 17 Medicare Publications into Braille, which includes creating Braille plates, proofreading, packaging, and distribution of finished Braille products during a reasonable time frame. Each Medicare Publication scheduled for Braille transcription during the 12- month period of performance will be submitted to the contractor as a task order. The following documents and files will be included in every task order; a QUARK file (with images & font files) for the Medicare publication to be transcribed; a project plan template which should e completed and returned to CMS Project Officer; an Excel address file ? if required. Sample publications selected for Braille transcription during this contract can be viewed on-line at www.medicare.gov. Shortly after the contract for Braille Medicare publications has be awarded, CMS will provide the contractor with a list of publication titles tentatively selected for Braille production during the 12-month period of performance. Titles of Medicare publications that are routinely selected for production in an alternative format are: Medicare & You Handbook, Your Medicare Benefits, Choosing a Medigap Policy, Your Guide to Prescription Drug Plans. With the exception of the Medicare & You Handbook, the average number of Braille publications ordered per title can range from 300 to 800. The average number of Braille Medicare handbooks ordered over the last few years is 2,500 to 3,000 with volume sets ranging from 2-3 volumes in length. We require the fold and stitch method for binding Braille publications. Braille versions of Medicare publications generally ship to only 2 destinations ? a fulfillment center in Cedar Rapids, IA and the CMS warehouse in Baltimore, MD. The Medicare handbook on the other hand is distributed to an estimated 225 destinations. Vendors who are interested must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration, (CCR). Vendors must have a valid Duns number to register in CCR at www.ccr.gov.
