- The 10th Annual Space and Missile Defense Conference and Exhibition will take place August 13-16, 2007, at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The theme for this years event is Celebrating 50 Years in Space and Missile Defense. The SMD Conference is widely attended by more than 6,000 professionals from throughout the United States and our allies around the world. Event sponsors include the National Defense Industrial Association, Tennessee Valley Chapter; Army Space and Missile D efense Association; and the Air Defense Artillery Association, Huntsville Chapter. Conference highlights include presentations from internationally recognized experts in the areas of global ballistic missile defense systems development and operation, as well as integration, synchronization, and capability development to meet new threats. The conference also will include a training and technology track focused on emerging technologies. Sessions will also cover space support to the warfighter, homeland defense, and the integration of cruise missile defense. Confirmed speakers include Gen. J ames E. Cartwright, commander, U.S. Strategic Command; Lt. Gen. James A. Abrahamson, director, Strategic Defense Initiative Organization; and Maj. Gen. Howard B. Bromberg, chief of staff, U.S. Strategic Command. Also confirmed are Ambassador James A. Josep h, chairman of the board, Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation and Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL). Other invited speakers include Admiral Timothy J. Keating, commander, U.S. Pacific Command; Gen. Kevin P. Chilton, commander, Air Force Space Command; Lt. Gen. Kevin T. Campbell, commanding general, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces S trategic Command; Lt. Gen. Henry A. (Trey) Obering III, director, Missile Defense Agency; Lt. Gen. Michael A. Hamel, commander, Space and Missile Systems Center, Air Force Space Command; and Lt. Gen. Michael D. Maples, director, Defense Intelligence Agency . There will be exhibit displays throughout the entire VBC and daily attractions in each hall, including presentations from local and celebrity authors. These attractions, along with the viewing of all exhibits, are free and open to the general public.
