- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will host a Herbert Hoover Dike Business Opportunities Workshop on April 26, 2007 in Belle Glade, Florida. The purpose of the workshop is to provide an overview of the Herbert Hoover Dike Rehab ilitation Project, its goals, timeline, and potential contracting opportunities. The Herbert Hoover Dike is a 140-mile-dike that has provided flood protection to Lake Okeechobee communities for more than 70 years. It was built by the U.S. Army Corps of E ngineers and continues to be managed today by the Corps of Engineers. A major rehabilitation project is under way for four reaches of the dike to improve areas of vulnerability. Much of the work for this project will be conducted through contracts awarded by the Corps of Engineers. Large and small businesses, alike are encouraged to attend to learn more about contract opportunities. Representatives from local government agencies, small businesses, chambers of commerce, community organizations, large contr acting organizations, and others have been invited. The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 26 at the University of Florida Everglades Research and Education Center, 3200 East Palm Beach Road, Belle Glade, FL.
