- Description
- The FAA has a requirement for the acquisition of replacement panels for the repair of 200 radar radomes within the National Airspace System (NAS). These panels are required for support of the ASR-8, ASR-11, BOS, ARSR-1, ARSR-2, ARSR-3, ANFPS, TDWR, and the NEXRAD antenna systems. The purpose of the radome is to protect the antenna systems from weather exposure, while allowing minimal interference to RF transmission through the radome. Each radome is comprised of several radome panels constructed of laminated fiberglass. These panels have been designed with complex dimensions and specific RF design characteristics. UV rays and/or storms occasionally damage, the panels causing de-lamination to occur. These panels lose their structural integrity and leak water onto the antenna system, resulting in radar outage and could compromise air traffic control coverage. The requirement is for a base year and includes option provisions to renew for four additional 1-year periods, to be exercised at the sole discretion of the FAA. The FAA intends to solicit and negotiate only with that L-3 Communications ESSCO, 48 Old Powder Mill Road, Concord, MA 01742, in accordance with AMS Policy 3.2.2.4. A market survey was conducted in April 3, 2007, through April 10, 2007, and the results of this survey supported the determination to solicit and negotiate with only one firm. This announcement is for information purposes only.
