- NASA/JSC has a requirement for an updated PANalytical X-Ray Diffraction System to accomplish the analytical goals of the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Directorate (ARES). NASA/JSC intends to purchase this X-Ray Diffraction System from PANalytical Inc. PANalytical Inc. is the only source to provide the PANalytical X-Ray Diffraction System that can meet the specific requirements for NASA/JSC ARES Directorate. This system meets agency unique requirements. ARES requires an X-Ray Diffraction System with high speed detector for high resolution phase analysis. Specific requirements for this system include: DIFFRACTOMETER CONSOLE - An instrument enclosure with sufficient space for single or dual goniometer. Enclosure has fully interlocked double sliding doors (18mm lead acrylic) for normal access. All direct radiation areas 12mm steel. - Hinged back panels for improved access during system maintenance or reconfiguration. - A high stability, solid state 3 kW x-ray generator. Generator settings controlled directly by the software including automated tube "burn-in", ramping of tube power and standby modes at measurement conclusion. Maximum settings of 60kV, 60mA. Generator communicates directly with x-ray tube to ensure that maximum allowable power ratings are never exceeded. Variations in HV <0.01% per 10% mains variation. - Microprocessor for control of 24 DC motors, multiple stepper motors, 4 detectors and 3 shutters simultaneously. - Mounting rack for accessories such as temperature controllers and detector electronics. - Dynamic real time status display of operating conditions and parameters including angular positions, counts, kV and mA settings. CERAMIC TUBE CU LFF - High-power X-Ray tube for X-Ray Diffraction. Characteristics including: body of ceramics, Cu anode, Long Fine Focal spot (LFF), two exit beam ports with Be window providing 1 line foci and 1 point foci. Tube prepared to rotate from line to point position and is equipped with line/point and anode type recognition. High Power: 60 kV, 2.2 kW. CERAMIC TUBE CO LFF - High-power X-Ray tube for X-Ray Diffraction. Characteristics including: body of ceramics, Co anode, Long Fine Focal spot (LFF), two exit beam ports with Be window providing 1 line foci and 1 point foci. Tube prepared to rotate from line to point position and is equipped with line/point and anode type recognition. High Power: 60 kV, 1.8 kW. Quick disconnects for water lines for a 2nd Tube PEDESTAL VERTICAL GONIOMETER Theta-Theta - High performance theta/theta goniometer. Both theta drives independently positioned using the unique Direct Optical Position Sensing (DOPS) servo control system. Specifications are: accuracy +/- 0.0025 degrees, reproducibility +/- 0.0001 degrees, scan speed 0.001 to 1.27 degrees per second, slew speed 10 degrees per second, minimum step size 0.0001 degree. Two theta measuring range 0 to 167 degrees, and goniometer radius variable from 130 to 230 mm. THETA-THETA TUBE INTERFACE, 150MM STAGE INTERFACE FOR THETA-THETA APPLICATIONS Incident Beam Optics: PROGRAMMABLE DIVERGENCE SLIT PROGRAMMABLE DIVERGENCE SLIT, PREFIX - Software controlled primary beam divergence slit mechanism that provides automatic variable slit and fixed slit modes of operation. The variable mode allows for illuminated sample irradiation from 0.5 to 20 mm in 0.5 mm increments. The fixed slit mode allows for 1/32,1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2 and 4 degree slit sizes. Beam masks of 2, 5, 10,15 and 20 mm. INCIDENT ANTI SCATTER SLIT DEVICE - Incident beam anti-scatter device to be mounted on fixed or programmable divergence slits. Divergence slits of 1/32 , 1/16 , 1/8 , 1/4 , 1/2 , 1 , 2 and 4 degree. MDCD control Cable to connect motor controlled optical modules to the multiple DC motor driver board. SOLLER SLIT 0.04 RADIANS - Soller slit 0.04 radians for incident and diffracted beam. SOLLER SLIT 0.02 RADIANS -Soller slit 0.02 radians for incident and diffracted beam. Diffracted Beam Optics PROGRAMMABLE ANTI-SCATTER SLIT - Programmable anti-scatter diffracted slit module. Variable mode that allows for illuminated sample irradiation from 0.5 to 20mm in 0.5mm increments. The area of illumination which can be offset from the center of the sample. The fixed slit mode allowing for 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2 and 4 degree slits sizes. MDCD control Cable to connect motor controlled optical modules to the multiple DC motor driver board. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on May 18, 2007. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.
