- The U.S. Marine Corps is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to determine availability of Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) or Research and Development (R&D) for a live fire Independent Projectile Detection Target System (IPDTS) that accomplishes/possesses the following capabilities: 1. Provides exact detection and location of hit and miss of sonic/supersonic projectiles on stationary and moving targetry utilized on static shooting ranges. 2. Provides exact detection and location of hit and miss of sonic/supersonic projectiles on stationary and moving targetry utilized on controlled movement ranges such as MOUT and Urban Assault Training Facilities. 3. Provides information pertaining to systems field of detection (size), sensitivity (angle, direction, accuracy) and interoperability with both lethal and non lethal munitions such as .223 and .30 caliber, blue tipped ammunition, and SESAMS. 4. Provides system mobility for ease of movement as well as system durability to withstand the extreme cold and hot weather climates of our military training facilities around the world. 5. Provides a system or system of systems capable of supporting all Marine Corps individual training standards (ITS) based marksmanship training to include rifle qualification/re-qualification, sniper known distance training, and competitive shooting. The Marine Corps anticipates hosting a vendor demonstration opportunity at MCB Quantico the first week of June 2007. All comments should be submitted to the attached points of contact; CWO4 Anthony Carbonari and Mr. Bob Ledyard. This is not a request for quotations or an announcement of a forthcoming solicitation. It should not be construed as a commitment of any kind by the US Government to issue a solicitation. Any information provided to the Government in response to this RFI will become USMC property and will not be returned. All proprietary or classified information will be treated appropriately.
