- Description
- This is a modification to the synopsis entitled Design and Fabricate A Vacuum Chamber, (Modification 1) which was posted on May 01, 2007. You are notified that the following changes are made: This modification is to provide answers to the following technical questions. 1. Questions: The requirements state that it can be out of aluminum or stainless steel. We checked with two of the top suppliers of conflat flanges. We have come to the conclusion that they do not make the conflat flange in aluminum. This alone made us look at designing it out of stainless steel. Answer: There are several companies that manufacture bi-metal conflat flanges, with a weldable aluminum stub and a stainless steel sealing surface. 2. Question: Can you provide more information on what the handholds are? Are they for lifting? Or just help guide it while it's moving? Answer: The handholds are to be used for guiding the vacuum chamber while it is being moved and to serve as personnel handholds during 0-g testing. 3. Question: Are the two flanges for mounting the chamber onto a skid shown in the sketch? If so please identify them to us. Answer: The flanges are to attach the chamber to a skid. The location of holes to facilitate the mounting will be provided after contract award. 4. Questions: Who is the positioning system manufacturer? Answer: The name of the positioning system manufacturer will be made available to the successful bidder. 5. Question: Are there drawings of the positioning system? Answer: Drawings of the positioning system will be made available to the successful bidder. 6. Question: Are there drawings of or examples of other similar units? Answer: The sketch included with the solicitation is similar to a previously purchased vacuum chamber that met the requirements of this solicitation. 7. Question: What is the bake out temperature? Answer: Once the other components of the system are installed, the chamber will not be baked out. 8. Question: Are there any restrictions on external reinforcing ribs. Answer: Within reason, there are no restrictions on external stiffening ribs. I would not expect to see a significant increase in overall dimensions due to stiffening ribs. The due date for responses is not extended. Documents related to this procurement will be available over the Internet. These documents will reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWW browser application.
