- Description
- The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) proposes to negotiate on a sole source basis a contract under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) with Gigaoptics Femtosecond Technologies, BlarerstraBe 56, 78462 Konstanz, Germany for a customized unidirectional femtosecond T:sapphire oscillator. This requirement is a central part of NIST's project to develop arbitrary optical waveform generators. The experiments involve the separation and manipulation of the individual modes of a high repetition rate femtosecond laser. This requires the combination of the highest repetition rate, high average power, and shortest pulses on the femtosecond timescale. The critical requirements for the femtosecond laser to be used in this work are: 1. Ultrashort-pulse mode-locked Ti sapphire laser with wavelength coverage at 810 nm 2. Combination of shortest pulse width and simultaneously the highest repetition rate. a) Pulse width less than 30 fs. b) Pulse repetition frequency 5GHz. 3. Output power greater than 650mW assuming 7W of 532nm single frequency pump power available. 4. Single spatial mode. 5. Fundamentally mode-locked (not harmonically mode-locked) 6. Ring laser geometry to minimize impact of back reflections Technical Specifications from manufacturers that sell mode-locked femtosecond lasers were obtained and the only laser that meets all requirements is manufactured by GigaOptics. Delivery is required by August 31, 2007. This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures (NTE $100K). This synopsis is issued for information only. No competitive solicitation is planned. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether or not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this requirement. Respondents must provide sufficient documentation that address qualifications pertinent to this requirement. Any questions regarding this notice shall be submitted in writing (e-mail preferred) no later than close of business May 31, 2007. Anticipated award date is June 1, 2007. NOTE: THIS NOTICE WAS NOT POSTED TO FEDBIZOPPS ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (16-MAY-2007); HOWEVER, IT DID APPEAR IN THE FEDBIZOPPS FTP FEED ON THIS DATE.
