Description
The solicitation for this project will be posted to FedBizOps on or about June 1, 2007 with bids due on June 29, 2007. The estimated start date is July 7, 2007. Bid Item 1: The project requires stand density management through the process of cutting down trees by hand to meet the spacing requirements in the Boulder Beetle, East Pine, and Dry Creek sale areas. Use of motorized equipment other than hand-held equipment such as powersaws and brush cutters will not be permitted off roads in the project area without approval of the Contracting Officer. Slash shall be treated so that any remaining slash meets the requirements as described in the specific tasks section and Detailed Unit Information Sheet(s)which will be in the solicitation. The contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, operating supplies, inspections, and incidentals. Bid Item 2: To reduce the threat of catastrophic wild fire, this project will reduce fuel loading within selected pre-commercially thinned areas in the Boulder Beetle & East Pine sale areas. Fuel shall be hand piled to reduce fuel loadings. A 4-foot by 4-foot piece of paper shall cover a portion of the pile to facilitate burning. The contractor shall provide all paper required for piles. Pile paper shall be 33# weight and treated on both sides. Material to be treated is composed of timber litter, selected standing dead trees 9 inches dbh or less, and pre-commercial thinning debris from this thinning project. This material is identified as fuel model 12 as defined by the USDA Forest Service General Technical Report, PNW-52 1976. Fuel amounts vary but are estimated at 0 to 3 feet in depth for a total of 5-30 tons/acre. It may be necessary to transport slash up to a 50 feet radius of pile(s) to meet minimum pile size requirements. Any pile not meeting contract requirements shall be re-piled at the Contractor?s expense.
