Description
***The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for a HIGH RESOLUTION-MULTIPLE COLLECTOR-INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA MASS SPECTROMETER SYSTEM (HR-MC-ICPMS) to be used in the Analytical Chemistry Division at NIST, Gaithersburg, MD. BACKGROUND: NIST intends to acquire a HR-MC-ICPMS to enable the certification of accurate high precision isotopic Standard Reference Materials (SRMs). At present, isotopic SRMs are accurately known on an absolute basis to an uncertainty between 0.1 % and 0.03 %, relative. Recent developments in HR-MC-ICPMS instrumentation have lead to isotope ratio measurements appearing in the scientific literature with uncertainties approaching 10 to 100 ppm, relative. Such measurements are two orders of magnitude more precise than the standards used to benchmark them. Applications have also expanded to include medical, environmental as well as forensic studies and have broadened the research field to include isotopic variations in elements that were previously thought to not show any natural fractionation. The HR-MC-ICPMS will form the basis for a renewed focus by NIST on producing SRM materials that will benchmark the advances in this new and exciting sphere of research. ****Due to the necessity for this solicitation to include scientific notations, which the FBO website does not support, this pre-solicitation notice will be immediately (1 June 2007) followed with an uploaded combined sysnopsis/solicitation document
