Description: Masticate (chop, shred, mulch, chip or mow) approximately 212 acres of predominately oak brush and intermountain brush species forming the understory of a predominant Ponderosa Pine stand on USFS land on the northwest end of the Uncompahgre Plateau approximately 8 miles southeast of Gateway, Colorado. The purpose of this treatment is to reduce the natural fuel loading and allow fire to be reintroduced to the site. The treatment area will be a mosaic with irregular boundaries and isolated areas, pockets or individuals of untreated vegetation throughout the project area. There is also a Timber Sale component to this work which offsets some of the cost of the above noted service work in accordance with the principles of Forest Service Stewardship contracting.
