- Description
- The Corps of Engineers has need for a contract for Fabrication and Delivery of miter gates for the future Charleroi Locks located in western Pennsylvania. There are 2 sets of miter gates with each set consisting of two miter gate leaves (right hand a nd left hand). One set will be the downstream gates and one set will be the upstream gates; both sets are for the future river chamber. The gates shall be constructed using various sizes of standard steel shapes and steel plate. The majority of the steel items shall conform to ASTM A-572 grade 50 requirements. In addition, there are several stainless steel items including contact blocks a nd seal plates. Connections will be accomplished by a combination of welding and bolting. All welded joints are to be tested by applicable non-destructive testing (ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and visual). Each lower gate leaf roughly measures: 47 Feet-10 Inches wide, 38 Feet-2 Inches high, and 2 Feet-6 Inches deep and weighs approximately 100 tons. Each upper gate leaf roughly measures 47 Feet-10 Inches wide, 20 Feet high, and 2 Feet-6 Inches deep and wei ghs approximately 65 tons. All gate leafs are to be delivered in one piece; field assembly to facilitate delivery will not be accepted. Components of the gates include the framing, skin plate, diaphragms, diagonal stressing bars and gussets, UHMW fenders, magnesium anodes, rubber seals, pintle castings, miscellaneous machined parts, walkway framing grating and handrails, and associated acc essories. The contractor will be responsible to develop and submit detailed shop drawings for review and approval. The contractor is to deliver the miter gates to the Pittsburgh Engineer Warehouse Repair Station (PEWARS) via barge. PEWARS is located at 3500 Grand Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15225 and is on the Ohio River. The gates will be offloaded by the Government using Government supplied cranes. The period of performance will be between 350 and 600 calendar days. This procurement is small business set aside.
