- The Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV N6) has a requirement for an information technology (IT) Asset Discovery and Management Tool, which shall provide complete IT asset visibility enabling IT asset governance and oversight. The tool will be employed to scan Navy enterprise IT networks on a recurring basis. Examples of the types of data the IT Asset Discovery and Management Tool shall detect and collect include: (1) IP enabled, networked devices, (2) Device operating systems and types (servers, desktops, printers, routers, IP-enabled devices), (3) System configuration data (CPU, memory, serial number, etc.), (4) Installed software and services (vendor, version, patch level), and (5) Software application and database users (Application, Users, etc.). The data are to be collected in a centralized enterprise repository in a manner that allows Navy IT decision makers at all Echelon levels to retrieve the data to make accurate and fact-based business decisions regarding resourcing, governing, and securing the Navy's IM/IT enterprise. This requirement also includes associated services to enable the Navy to most efficiently operate the tool.
