Description
The proposed treatment area includes approximately 5,200 acres near Susie Creek north of Carlin, Nevada. Scotch thistle will be sprayed with Transline at the rate of 2/3 pints/acre (.25 lbs. ai/acre) when the plants are in the rosette to early bolting stages. A spray solution of 1/4 fluid ounce (29 ml) of Transline per 1 gallon of water applied to 1000 square feet is equivalent to the 2/3 pints/acre rate. A surfactant and a colorant will be used and must be on the Surfactants and Dyes Approved For Use on BLM Lands list. Scotch thistle plants that have matured past the early bolt stage of growth may be cutoff below the crown of the plant before seeding out to fulfill contract requirements. Handtools such as a shovel may be used. Application will be by ground equipment. No aerial application will be made. The majority of the project area will not require a broadcast application. The control work specified in this contract will require multiple site visits during spring, summer and fall seasons. The majority of the specified treatments will require hand work that includes pulling/dragging hose and backpack applications on steep terrain. Solicitation packages will be available electronically on or about June 13, 2007. Offers will be due on or about June 22, 2007. A pre-proposal site visit is scheduled for June 18th, 2007, meeting at the Elko BLM Field Office, 3900 East Idaho St., Elko, NV 89801 at 8:00 am local time. Participants are requested to bring water, lunch and drive a 4 wheel drive vehicle due to the road conditions at the site. The tour may be rescheduled depending on weather or site conditions.
