MARKET SURVEY LIGHTWEIGHT CALIBER 50 MACHINEGUN 1. The Office of the Product Manager Crew Served Weapons at the Armament Research Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny, NJ is currently seeking sources for the availability of a developmental lightweight caliber 50 machinegun with tripod ground mount. The Lightweight Caliber 50 Machinegun (LW50MG) must demonstrate the following Key Performance Parameters (KPP) as a minimum: a. Quick-change barrel in 15 seconds or less and fixed headspace and timing b. Minimum barrel life of 10,000 rounds (threshold), and 15,000 rounds (objective) c. Manually-operated safety d. Reliability: i. Mean Rounds Between Stoppage MRBS > 2752 (threshold) and 5,000 (objective) ii. Mean Rounds Between Failure MRBF> 5000 (threshold) and 12,575 (objective) 2. The LW50MG will demonstrate the following Additional Performance Attributes (APA): a. Cleaning. Will not require special tools for cleaning of the weapon system (T). b. Protective Coating. Corrosion, abrasion, impact, and chemical resistant (T). c. Ammunition Compatibility. Compatible with all caliber .50 ammunition used on the standard M2HB: M1 Blank/Incendiary/Tracer, Blank M1A1, M2 Ball, M8 Ball Armor Piercing Incendiary, M10 Tracer, M17 Tracer, M20 Ball, Armor Piercing Incendiary-Tracer, M23 Incendiary, M33 Ball, M48A1/A2, T249E2 Ball Practice, M903/M962 SLAP and MK 211 (T). M858 and M860 using the M3 Recoil Amplifier Barrel Assembly (O). d. Blank Adapter. Capable of firing blanks using accessory systems devices (T).Capable of firing blanks without the use of a blank firing adapter (O). e. Transportability. Shall possess sufficient ruggedness to withstand military use to include air and shipboard operations without degrading operations and safety performance (T). f. MILES. Must be Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System compatible (T). g. Barrel Compatibility. Must be capable of freely interchanging like barrels among all guns without adjustment of headspace and timing to the machine gun (T). h. Range Scale. The range scale sight shall be in meters (O). i. Reduced Flash Signature. The barrel shall incorporate an improved flash hider that reduces the firing signature to less half than that of the current M2HB machine gun (O). j. Lightweight Performance Attributes. LW .50 Cal MG M2HB MG Development Threshold Development Objective Weapon Weight: 84 lbs 50% Lighter(42 lbs) 60% Lighter (33.6 lbs) System Weight: 130 lbs 50% Lighter(65 lbs) 60% Lighter(52 lbs) Weapon, Pintle, T&E, and Tripod Recoil Force 1000 lb 60% Less(400 lbs) 75% Less(250 lbs) Free Gun Not Available Equal to or Better than 50% Accuracy Improvement over M2HB MG 3. All responsible interested sources are encouraged to submit their capabilities and qualification data in regard to the above no later than fourteen (14) days from the date of publication of this notice. Please include company name, address, telephone number, technical point of contact, brochures/literature, not to exceed 25 pages. Information submitted should include sufficient technical descriptions, test data, ability to build prototype hardware and related material as evidence of technical credibility and design maturity. 4. This is a market survey for informational and planning purposes only and should not be construed as a request for proposal (RFP) or a commitment by the U.S. Government. The Government does not intend to award a contract on this basis of this market survey. All information shall be submitted at no cost or obligation to the Government.
