Description
Point of Contact Paula Mills Phone 206-764-3516, Fax 206-764-6817 or email paula.r.mills@usace.army.mil This project requires collection, transport, and placement of large woody debris in the vicinity of Howard Hanson Dam (HHD) and the Green River in King County Washington. Large wood debris is currently stored near McDonald Field above the HHD reservoir. The quantity to be transported is approximately 30 pieces of large wood. Logs will range up to 50 ft long and 40 inches diameter at breast height (dbh) with attached root wads. Individual pieces will be selected by the government point of contact (POC). Project requires transport of this wood from the present location at McDonald Field to the Zone 1 gravel nourishment sites near the Tacoma Headworks approximately 10 miles downstream. Two gravel berms will be constructed in the Green River in August by o thers. The two gravel berms are approximately 1,000 feet apart. Wood will be scattered on gravel berms at the direction of the Corps with the majority placed at the upstream site. Two optional tasks will repeat the above effort later in the year after gravel berms have eroded. Wood placement during the optional tasks will be directly into the wetted portion of the Green River at the direction of the Corps. Contractor will place wo od into the river from the bank. No heavy equipment will be allowed in the river. Placement of the optional wood quantities shall occur no less than 30 calendar days after notice to proceed for that option.
