Description
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), operated by Battelle Memorial Institute under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, solicits interest from companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture and market the following technology. License rights may be issued on an exclusive or non-exclusive basis and may include specific fields of use. PNNL may also be available to licensee(s) to assist in further research and development of the technology under a sponsored research agreement. Researchers at PNNL have developed an improved process for the production of proteins and chemicals in fungal bioprocesses. The technology is an improved bioprocess obtained through genetic manipulation of fungal morphology. Fungi are widely utilized for production of a variety of commercially useful products. Most of these bioprocesses for industrial scale production of chemicals and proteins use species of fungi that are characteristically referred to as filamentous fungi. Utilization of a filamentous fungus species for production of desired compounds most often involves growing submerged cultures of the fungus. When these fungi exhibit filamentous growth in submerged culture it results in increased viscosity of the culture medium, thus adversely affecting mass transfer rates and energy input for aeration and mixing. These culture properties are typically associated with decreased productivity. Alternatively, ?filamentous? fungi can exhibit pellet morphology, which provides a lower viscosity, a reduction in the power needed for mixing and aeration of the culture,and increased productivity of the desired product. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Any company interested in licensing this technology must respond with a letter of interest (may be submitted by e-mail) no later than 30 days from the publication date of this notice summarizing the company?s business and technical expertise and motivation for pursuing this opportunity. Companies deemed appropriate will be provided with further information on the technology. Such information will require an executed Nondisclosure Agreement. Respondent(s) will be notified of their selection as potential business partners based on initial diligence efforts. Companies to be considered further will be asked to respond to a request for business case/plan within 30 days after the request is sent. The request will contain specific selection criteria,including but not limited to plans for investment in product development, the marketing strategy for penetration into the market, as well as the revenue strategy and projected revenue stream related to this new technology and IP.
