- Description
- Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), operated by Battelle Memorial Institute under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, solicits interest from companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture and market the following technology. License rights may be issued on an exclusive or non-exclusive basis and may include specific fields of use. PNNL may also be available to licensee(s) to assist in further research and development of the technology under a sponsored research agreement. Researchers at PNNL have developed a process concept for the use of microorganisms in the production of fuels, chemicals and other products. When applied, the new process would improve the efficiency of ethanol fermentations by genetically engineering ethanol producing organisms, for example yeast. The improved conversion efficiency of ethanol production is based on utilization of a five carbon sugar present in hemicellulose, a ubiquitous component of lignocellulosic biomass. The yield improvement combines utilization of xylose, a product of hemicellulose hydrolysis. PNNL's improved conversion efficiency for sugars to ethanol production involves incorporation of enzymes into a genetically engineered ethanologenic microorganism. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Any company interested in licensing this technology must respond with a letter of interest (may be submitted by e-mail) no later than 30 days from the publication date of this notice summarizing the company?s business and technical expertise and motivation for pursuing this opportunity. Companies deemed appropriate will be provided with further information on the technology. Such information will require an executed Nondisclosure Agreement. Respondent(s) will be notified of their selection as potential business partners based on initial diligence efforts. Companies to be considered further will be asked to respond to a request for business case/plan within 30 days after the request is sent. The request will contain specific selection criteria, including but not limited to plans for investment in product development, the marketing strategy for penetration into the market, as well as the revenue strategy and projected revenue stream related to this new technology and IP. Please send letters or emails of interest to the attention of the POC identified within this Notice.
