Description
MARKET RESEARCH FOR M240G MACHINEGUN RAPID RELOADER The Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (MCWL) is conducting a market research for a device to be utilized to conduct experimentation on devices that permit rapid reloading of the M240G medium machine gun. SCOPE. The M240G medium machine gun is the primary medium machine gun for the Marine Corps and it is doctrinally employed as a crew-served weapon. However, in the current conflicts, the M240G is often operated by only one Marine, such as in vehicle turrets, guard posts, and other applications. A rapid reloader system that would facilitate the operation of the machine gun by an individual would assist the Marine Corps in its combat missions primarily by reducing the time and difficulty of reloading the ammunition belt into the weapon. This reloading process is even more difficult at night and having a rapid reloader for the machine gun could significantly simplify and speed up this process and thereby provide for more effective use of the weapon. BACKGROUND. MCWL seeks to test and evaluate the utility to the warfighter of a device that will allow the warfighter to rapidly reload the M240G medium machine gun with one hand. The current reloading process requires that when a new ammunition belt is loaded into the weapon, it requires two crew members (gunner and assistant gunner) to open the M240G feedcover, introduce the ammunition belt, close the feedcover and then operate the weapon. A device that would provide one-handed operation to load the M240G could reduce the time, complexity, and numbers of crewmen needed to reload the M240G and make it ready for firing. TASK DESCRIPTION. Task One: Contractor shall provide a lightweight (less than 4 oz) device that allows one handed loading and reloading of the M240G medium machine gun. Sources capable of fully satisfying the above requirements should submit capability statements/expressions of interest providing the Government the necessary information to determine actual capability via email to Mr. Ira D. Patterson ira.patterson@usmc.mil referencing the following tracking #9045. These should be submitted on or before 16 July 2007. This synopsis should not be considered as a commitment of any kind by the Government.
