Description
Food Preservation by Ultrasound Please note: In order to conduct research on Food Preservation by Ultrasound and replicate the work being conducted on this topic, the FDA will need both bench and pilot plant scale Ultrasound equipment, which are similar to those being used in academia and industry. Having the equipment from the same manufacture will allow us to determine if the engineering parameters and results from a bench system can be scaled up to the pilot plant or small industrial size system. Intent to Sole Source: Other competition not acceptable. Minimum Technical Requirements: A. General Minimum Technical Requirements for both instruments 1. Ultrasonic equipment must have automatic resonance frequency tracking. Ultrasonic equipment re-scans every 0.1 of a second to find the new resonance frequency in case there are any changes in process condition such as temperature, pressure, viscosity, gas/air entrainment. 2. Ultrasonic equipment must have built-in sensors to report any change in process condition to the generator so that the system never overloads and breaks down. The optimum resonance frequency allows you to work/operate at 85% energy efficiency. (?) Any deviation away from the optimum resonance frequency will mean a significant power drop off. 3. All food contact surface materials must be food-grade. 4. For applications such as agricultural washing/sanitization and in line microbial destruction for food preservation, Sonotrode must be radial design. 5. The standard accessories must allow for amplitudes of up to 170 micron, pressures of up to 10 bars, flow rates of up to 10L/min, (depending on the process) temperatures of up to 80 deg C and viscosity of up to 100.000cP. 6. Ultrasonic equipment must be currently being used, or similar to that being used by academia and industry to conduct research on this topic. Ultrasonic equipment must have PC control, which facilitates the recording of the individual trials. Ultrasonic equipment results are reproducibility and linear scalability of the engineering parameters. B. Minimum Technical Requirements for the 400 watts Ultrasound bench top scale and Accessories 1. Bench top Scale UltraSound Processor Power 400 Watts Amplitude adjustable Amplitude 20-100% Pulse adjustable 0-100% Operating frequency 24 kHz Power supply 110-120V~, 6.3A, 50-60Hz Automatic frequency tuning system, Dry running protected, Portable case Mounting tools 2. In order to conduct research on food preservation by ultrasound and replicate research on the bench scale to that, which is currently be conducted by academia and industry on this topic, the bench top Ultrasound Processor must be able to be used with the following list of Accessories. These attachment or accessories must be included in the price quotation. a. 22 mm Titanium Sonotrode for the 400 watts Ultrasound bench top scale: Made of titanium, Tip diameter 22mm, Approx. length 100mm, for samples from 100ml up to 2000ml. b. 22 mm Titanium Sonotrode for the 400 watts Ultrasound bench top scale: Made of titanium, Tip diameter 22mm, Approx. length 100mm, with seal for closed systems. c. Stainless Steel flow cell (vessel) for cooling of 22 mm Titanium Sonotrode: Made of stainless steel, with cooling, including fast connection kit, for fluids, Autoclavable, for operation with 22 mm Titanium Sonotrode, volume approx. 22 mI. d. Stainless Steel Flow Cell Stand for the 400 watts Ultrasound bench top scale: 16mm, Made of stainless steel, Base length 300mm, Width 150mm, Height 600mm. e. Power meter for the 400 watts Ultrasound bench top scale: For display of current power, cumulated energy and cumulated operation time, 115V-1 P, 50-60Hz, American standard plug type. f. Sound protection box for 400 watt Ultrasound processor: With vertically adjustable table and 16mm stand bar. g. Special design 22 mm Titanium Radial Sonotrode for the 400 watts Ultrasound bench top scale: Tip diameter 22 mm, length 100 mm, Made of titanium for applications such as agricultural washing/sanitization and in line microbial destruction for food preservation. h.
