Description
U. S. Army Research Development & Engineering Center (ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, Picatinny, NJ is conducting a market survey to identify sources with the capability/device to keep track of the location of shipping containers and other items, essentially anywhere in the world. The desired capability will ideally have the following characteristics: The device shall enable a remote user to be able to view the position of the containers by viewing a database that reflects the information provided by the device. The device ideally would be no larger than approximately 6 cubic inches. A smaller size is preferred. A device larger than 6 cubic inches is still of interest however. One dimension ideally would not exceed one inch to ensure that the device could be mounted to a shipping container between the structural ribs ??? to avoid damage. The device would ideally have a life span of at least 6 months based on reporting its position once per day. The greater the life span the better. Position reporting precision ideally would be within 100 feet of the container???s true position. However, a capability that can only provide position reports with errors of as much as a mile or two are also of interest. The device must be able to withstand the elements of outdoor use to include rain, and extreme high and low temperatures. Cost in quantities of 10,000 ideally would be less than $100 each. The Government is interested in hearing from organizations that may have novel approaches to accomplish some or all of these desired elements. Items that are under development, but not fully matured are also of interest. Low monthly communication related charges are also very important ??? preferably less than $10/mo. All responses must include company name, address, POC, phone number, fax number, and email address and are required by August 16, 2007. This is not a solicitation and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. Submittal of information is requested via electronic mail to Jim Fedewitz (973-724-3924) e-mail: fedewitz@pica.army.mil.
