Description
REQUEST FOR QUOTATION SB1341-07-RQ-0293 AMENDMENT #0001 The above referenced request for quotation is hereby amended to respond to technical questions, and extend the due date for quotes. (1) The following responses are provided to technical questions submitted: QUESTION 1: Can you provide more information regarding mechanical or electrical integration of the two devices? For example, are there physical constraints on how the devices are to be mounted, or limits on their footprint? ANSWER 1: LINE ITEM #1, MECHANICAL Line Item #1 must be small enough to be mounted within the 2.5x3.75 inch footprint of a Newport 562XYZ manual positioning stage. Samples to be analyzed in the Tip-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (TERS) instrument, typically semiconductor wafers or wafer pieces, will be mounted on the top surface of Item #1. As stated in our specification (10), Item #1 must be large enough to accommodate a 25 x 25 mm sample. LINE ITEM #1, ELECTRICAL As stated in our advertised specs (7) and (9), the open loop Z-positioner shall be controllable by an externally provided analog voltage source, and response of the Z-positioner to this external voltage shall be between 2 micron/volt and 20/micron/volt. We can further state that the external analog voltage source will be an output of a National Instruments Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) board programmable via National Instruments Labview. LINE ITEM #2, MECHANICAL Line Item #2 will be mounted on the bottom surface of the upper frame of the TERS instrument; the upper frame is being designed in-house at NIST. Item #2 must be small enough to meet our advertised spec (9) that the lowest mechanical resonance frequency shall be 60 kHz or greater (this sets an upper limit to the size, because the lowest resonance frequency decreases with increasing size). Item #2 must be large enough to meet our advertised spec (10) that "the surface area in the XY plane ... available for mounting a probe tip and associated parts, shall be at least 4 x 4 mm". We can further state that the part of the probe tip assembly that will be attached to Item #2 is a quartz crystal tuning-fork resonator of the type commonly used in wristwatches. LINE ITEM #2, ELECTRICAL See our advertised specs (3), (4), (7), (8) for control voltage inputs to the X actuator (full range = 4 micron), Y actuator (full range = 4 micron), and X oscillation actuator (full range = 10 nm at frequencies from DC to at least 35 kHz). We can further state that the external voltage sources for the X and Y (4 micron) actuators will be outputs of a National Instruments Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) board, and the external voltage source for the X oscillation actuator (10 nm, DC - 35 kHz) will be the probe drive output of an RHK PLLPro AFM controller. QUESTION 2: What is the motivation for open loop control of the z axis for line item #1? Is it intended to be operated in this mode for lower noise, faster response time or some other reason? ANSWER 2: Motivation for open-loop control of Z in Item 1: The Z position will be set via a control loop that is part of the overall TERS instrument, but external to Items 1 and 2 in this solicitation. QUESTION 3: Is the range of travel indicated above appropriate for your application? ANSWER 3: We require a minimum of 30 micron travel in the Z direction, as stated in our advertised specification (2) for Item #1. (4) The due date for quotations is hereby changed to read as follows: FROM: Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 3:30 PM EST, TO: Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 3:30 PM EST.
