Description: A solicitation for the following requirement will be available at http://ideasec.nbc.gov on or about 8/6/07. REQUIREMENT-The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking a fixed-price construction contract for repairs to and repainting of the concrete tower shaft exterior of the Fire Island Lighthouse. The NAICS code for this requirement is 236220. the estimated price range for this procurement is between $100,000 and $250,000. The period of performance after issuance of award is forty-five (45) calendar days. STATEMENT OF WORK/SPECIFICATIONS -The work of this project consists of repairs to and repainting of the concrete tower shaft exterior of the Fire Island Lighthouse in order to leave a sound, intact structure and weatherproof coated surface upon the completion of work. The Lighthouse is 167 feet high total; the masonry shaft portion is 140 feet high. Work includes but is not limited to the following: 1. Manual scraping of existing paint on the tower shaft to remove all loose and blistered areas of coating; 2. Routing, preparation and sealing of surface cracks to make watertight while allowing for future movement; 3. Removal and replacement of deteriorated expansion joints; 4. Preparation and painting of concrete tower shaft surface. (This contract does not include the preparation of painting of the metal elements associated with lantern and watch room rails, structure, and fenestration.) HISTORIC NATURE OF THE FIRE ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE - The Contractor shall note the historical significance of the structure upon which work will be performed. Because of the historic significance of the Fire Island Lighthouse, certain aspects of this Contract will not be carried out with materials and/or methods commonplace in the modern construction industry. It shall be incumbent upon the Contractor to furnish labor who can execute first-class workmanship in the materials and methods specified, and who will take any necessary precautions to protect site, structures, and objects of this historic landscape not scheduled to receive work. COMPETITION - This procurement is open to small and large businesses and is subject to Public Law 100-656. This proposed solicitation is subject to the provisions of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) Part 14, Sealed Bids. A site visit will be scheduled for interested parties with the time and date to be announced with the solicitation.
