Description
Expression of Interest (EOI) for Treatment of DWPF Recycle Waste. This EOI is issued in an effort to identify potential sources and technologies for the treatment of radioactive liquid waste. The anticipated future work scope will involve the design, fabrication, installation, and testing of equipment and support systems to treat liquid waste at a designated location on the Savannah River Site, (SRS), (a U.S. Department of Energy facility), located near Aiken, South Carolina. The waste streams involved have been determined not to be high-level waste and can be treated and disposed of as low-level waste. Currently, our Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF) generates approximately 1.5 million gallons of recycle water annually as a result of its vitrification of high level radioactive sludge salt waste. The recycle water is being returned to our tank farm. This amount is anticipated to increase to approximately 2.5 million gallons annually. We are looking for a method for treating this waste stream that will result in the elimination of the recycle water from having to be returned to our tank farm, but instead, enable it to be sent through existing piping systems to our SRS - Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) for further treatment and disposition, or sent to our SRS - H12 Outfalls for disposition. Three methods are currently being considered: 1.) using an evaporator, 2.) using a filter and ion exchange, or 3.) using an effluent treatment process. We are not limiting our options to only these three methods. Other viable methods that might be proposed for consideration will be welcomed. If your firm is interested in participating in this EOI, please respond by email to: ken.rothgeb@srs.gov . Provide your complete company name, address, telephone number, fax. number, contact person, and email address. Upon receipt of your response we will contact you so more detailed EOI information can be sent to you.
