Description
SAMPLE WEAVING SYSTEM Description: The Southern Regional Research Center Agricultural Research Service, U.S.D.A. is seeking bids for a Sample Weaving System as a means to produce woven fabric from small quantities of cotton yarn. Research Objectives: There is a need to produce woven fabric from small quantities of cotton yarn, of sufficient length to permit the measurement of physical properties in addition to providing a sample to allow the cloth to be examined for imperfections before and after dyeing, as well as measurements of color. The weaving system is the final part of an integrated system to provide yarn and fabric for testing, from fibers harvested from cotton plants under development for possible release as a cultivar. Technical Specifications Required: 1.) A means to produce a fabric woven entirely from a single package that may hold at least 2 pounds of yarn. 2.) Typically the fabric will be about 20 inches wide and about 100 inches long. 3.) A possible system would include a single yarn slasher for the production of sized yarn, a sample warping machine to produce a warp of several hundred ends, and a sample weaving machine to produce the fabric. 4.) The weaving system will be versatile, capable of producing a range of simple woven structures ranging from plain to sateen weaves, possibly requiring the use of 14 or more shafts, with single pick insertion. 5.) Electronic control of warp let-off and fabric take-up motions are highly desirable mechanisms to insure consistent fabric structure and tension history between sample lots. All systems and components shall be provided with a 1-year warranty from the date of installation. The warranty shall cover all system parts against manufacturing defect or failure during normal service covering service labor and travel expenses. ALL RESPONSIBLE SOURCES MAY SUBMIT A BID FOR CONSIDERATION TO USDA-ARS-SRRC, 1100 ROBERT E LEE BOULEVARD, NEW ORLEANS, LA 70124.
