- ***The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for a 14.9 TESLA MAGNET SYSTEM to be used in the NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR), Gaithersburg, MD. BACKGROUND: NIST has a requirement for a high field superconducting magnet with variable temperature insert for neutron scattering applications. This magnet will be used in support of neutron scattering experiments and must offer a high degree of reliability along with simplified operation through the use of specialized equipment and controls. Two sample sticks for controlled temperatures from 1.5 to 300 K must be included. In addition, a dilution refrigerator insert and associated hardware and software must be provided to access lower temperatures. This acquisition includes the magnet with variable temperature insert, two sample sticks, one dilution refrigerator insert, magnet power supply, dilution refrigerator gas handling system, computer control of the dilution refrigerator, and all connecting hoses and cables necessary to make a complete, functional system. Items not included in this acquisition are pumps or vacuum hoses for operation of the variable temperature insert in the temperature range 1.6 to 4.2 K. *****Due to the necessity for this solicitation to include scientific notation, which the FBO website does not support, this pre-solicitation notice will be immediately followed (18 July 2007) with an uploaded combined synopsis/solicitation document in Microsoft Word format.
