- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Coordinating Center for Infectious Diseases (CCID), National Center for Zoonotic, Vector-Borne and Enteric Diseases (NCZVED), Division of Parasitic Diseases intends to issue a non-competitive purchase order on 15 August 2007 to AABB (formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks) to improve the AABB Chagas disease surveillance system with enhanced and auto-generated graphics (maps), as well as the addition of automated uploading processes to avoid significant manual data input. The government believes that AABB is the only source for this project since AABB is the only U.S. biovigilance system for the blood collection and transfusion medicine community so it has the unique ability to engage the majority of blood collection faculties into the process of surveilling Chagas disease. The minimum vendor qualifications are (1) the vendor shall have established methods for collecting and reporting blood donor screening test results and supplemental testing results directly form blood banks operating in the U.S. and (2) the vendor shall have established means of providing blood donor testing result data including maps to CDC program staff in the Division of Parasitic Diseases.
