- DESCRIPTION: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Pfeiffer Vacuum, Inc, of Nashua, New Hampshire, for the purchase of Turbomolecular Pumps and Pressure Measurement Systems. Sole Source determination is based on the following: NIST requires the new Turbomolecular Pumps and Pressure Measurement Systems for the new low temperature AFM project. This system must be identical with NIST?s existing stock of vacuum pumps, so that the pumps, controllers, and spart parts can be interchanged if a pump or controller fails in order to keep vacuum integrity in critical experiments. In addition, the pressure-measurement items must be compatible with the existing stock so that gauges and controllers can be interchanged in case of failure, and also make use of the same stock of spare parts. The turbo pumps are required to have compression ratios for N2 greater than 1E10 and for H2 greater than 5E5; and N2 greater than 1E11 and for H2 greater than 1E5. Therefore, sole source determination is based on the need to maintain 100 percent compatibility with existing equipment at NIST. Pfeiffer Vacuum, Inc., is the sole manufacturer and distributor of the system that is required to satisfy the Government?s minimum requirements. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 employees. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, the Government will consider responses received by August 8, 2007, 3:30 p.m. EST. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
