Description
NASA, John C. Stennis Space Center has recently been selected as the test site for the construction of a new A-3 Altitude Test Facility. The new test facility will provide an altitude propulsion test capability which will enable the Constellation Program?s Exploration Launch Office, J-2X Project Element to validate the performance of the J2-X engine for the upper stage of the new Ares I launch vehicle. The A-3 Altitude Test Facility will be constructed for long term altitude rocket propulsion testing at Stennis Space Center. As a result, NASA/SSC plans to issue a Request for Quotations (RFQ) for the structural steel shapes required for the construction of the A3 Test Stand Main Structure. The company performing this work shall be herein referred to as the material supplier. The material supplier is to provide all shapes in the lengths and sizes as specified in the request for Proposal. All materials shall be in compliance with the AISC?s ?Manual of Steel Construction, Allowable Stress Design, 9th ed, ASTM A6 (ASTM A6M) ?Specification for General Requirements for Rolled Steel Plates, Shapes, Sheet Piling, and Bars for Structural Use.? And ASTM A992 ?Standard Specification for Structural Steel Shapes?. The required steel shall include but not be limited to: W 12 shapes from 26 to 170 #/ft, W14 shapes from 22 to 426 #/ft and W24 shapes at 84 #/ft for a total weight of approximately 3.5 million pounds of steel. Exact descriptions and quantities desired shall be described in the RFQ. The material supplier shall ship the entire order 6 months from the date of the award of the contract to Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, Mississippi. The NAICS code and size standard are 331111 and 1,000, respectively. All responsible sources may submit a quotation which shall be considered by the agency. The anticipated release date of this RFQ is on or about August 9, 2007, with responses due NLT 3:00 PM (Central Standard Time), Aug 23, 2007. All contractual and technical questions must be submitted in writing (e-mail or FAX to Jason Edge, jason.f.edge@nasa.gov, (228) 688-1141 no later than Aug 21, 2007. Telephone questions will not be acceptable. There shall be no hard copies of the solicitation, technical specification, or drawings. All of the aforementioned information with respect to this acquisition will only be available electronically at the following address: http://procurement.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/EPS/bizops.cgi?gr=D&pin=64 . **All offerors are reminded to check the above web address for the most current information with respect to this acquisition.
