- Description
- Point of contact for this action is Ms. McCoy Klink, telephone (703) 704-0035, email mccoy.klink@us.army.mil. Please provide all information no later than Friday, 3 August 2007. Description - The Government is seeking potential offerors for the rapid development and deployment of a rifle-mountable rangefinder for the Grenade Launcher Module (GLM), XM320. Vendors are requested to provide information to the U.S. Army Product Manager Soldier Sensors and Lasers (PM SSL). The GLM will provide an improved capability to range and engage targets from 31 to 350 meters day and night. The GLM grenadier will have the capability to point to targets for other members of the squad to distances ou t to 800 meters. Information on the XM320 can be found here: https://www.peosoldier.army.mil/factsheets/SW_IW_XM320.pdf For more images of an M4 carbine equipped with a GLM and associated day/night sight, please contact the POC above. Key requirements for the GLM pertaining to its associated rangefinder are that the subsystem provide a handheld range determination capability out to 800 meters with a measurement accuracy of ? 3 meters (T), or enhanced day and night fire control with rang efinder and ballistic solution capability integrated with the sight and fire control with range determination capability out to 2,000 meters with an accuracy of ? 1 meter (O). The rangefinder should at least provide repeatable and accurate range determinat ion capability for man-sized targets out to 200 meters and tank-sized targets out to 300 meters, but the rangefinder optimally will provide range determination capability to the objective range of 2,000 meters in ideal conditions. The Armys intent is to procure a rangefinder for grenadiers that is mountable on an M4 carbine equipped with the GLM and associated day/night sight. The rangefinder should be backward-compatible with the legacy M203 grenade launcher system. The rangefinde r shall minimize weight impact to the Soldier. Size, weight, ergonomics and cost are critical to the rangefinder program. As such, PM SSL will consider any configuration which will fit on the limited MIL-STD-1913 (Picatinny) rail space on the M4 not alread y occupied by the GLM itself or the day/night sight, including stand-alone systems or systems integrated into other equipment (day sights, aiming lights, etc.) common to the M4 carbine. The solution procured shall be a commercial-off-the-shelf or non-developmental item. There is a potential to procure 72,000 rangefinder systems beginning in FY09. The Government requests information on any materiel solutions for this rangefinder, including cost to develop, unit cost, and schedule including delivery date after receipt of order. This is not a request for proposal or quotation. No solicitation document exists. This is not to be construed as a commitment by the government to procure these items, nor does the Army intend to award on the basis of this sources sought or otherwise pay f or the information requested.
