Description
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) plans to procure on a sole source basis for components regarding: Imaging system for automated screening of DNA Probes for the following: 1) Ludl MAC5000 Controller for XY stepper stage with joystick; 2) Stage 120mm x 100mm flat top; 3) Slide insert holder for inverted state; 4) Multi-well plate holder insert for inverted state; 5) controller card for filter wheels and shutters; 6) controller card for Z control wit encoder input, 1 required for Z; 7) IP Lab suite for Windows and; 8) Image capture, processing and analysis for Windows 98 SE 200 and XP, all parts and accessories are a quantity of one (1) with: BioVision Technologies, 80 West Welsh Pool Road, Suite 101 North, Exton, PA 19341. The supplies and services herein are being procured in accordance with the simplified acquisition procedures authorized by FAR Part 13.106. The North American Industry Classification System Code is 334516 and the business size standard is 500 employees. The salient characteristics apply to the components: Imaging System automated screening of DNA probes: All components must be compatible with the Olympus IX70. - Motorized linear XY stage compatible with the existing Olympus IX-70 microscope. The XY stage must include holders for microscope slides and multi-well plates. - XY stage must be controlled by a controller compatible with the current imaging system, capable of interfacing with the microscope, camera for this particular imaging system including a Z controller and two sets of automated customized filter wheels. - Image capture software compatible with existing software, must be compatible with the Pathway imaging system operated with IP lab suite for Windows. - Filter wheel must be upgraded to include customized filters that allow better capture of images in the far-red spectrum (Cy5 fluorescent probes). - Filter set and a filter cube capable of detecting DAPI, FITC, Texas Red and Cy5. - High-speed cooled digital camera with a fire-wire connection capable of interfacing with the microscope and the controller and to capture images in the far red end of the light spectrum. The camera must be cooled to -30C and include a 1360 x 1036 pixel array with 12-bit, 20 MHz digitization. - Programming of software: requirements include microscope automation, automation of the process required for imaging of fluorescence probes and software that records the location of DNA probes across a slide with computer measurements from fluorescence images. Justification NCI is interested in extending the capabilities of the current Olympus IX70 microscope to allow automatic capture of images of single replicating molecules. This will allow the laboratory to obtain high-throughput information on replication events, and importantly, to obtain quantitative information on a large sample of replicating molecules that can be subject to statistical analyses. The requested equipment will also expand the spectrum used for microscopic analyses to facilitate the use of multiple fluorescent probes, a requirement that will allow detection of multiple genes at the same time. This equipment is required for the expansion of ongoing studies. In addition, the equipment will facilitate analysis of DNA replication patterns in a high throughput mode and will allow quantification of the data. The new imaging system will also facilitate the concomitant use of multiple fluorescent dyes, affording analysis at a level more sophisticated than is currently available. Also, the NCI requires the BioVision Technologies components - Imaging System for automated screening of DNA probes to facilitated visualization and quantification of fluorescent signals on single DNA molecules in a high-throughput mode. The results of the NCI studies are expected to yield new information regarding the regulation of cell growth under normal conditions and under conditions that can cause them to become cancerous and the response of cells to drugs used in the treatment of cancer. BioVision Technologies Inc is the only source known to the NCI that can provide the system and components compatible with the Olympus IX70 microscope. Changing variables will be detrimental to the current research and studies in progress. This is not a solicitation for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes they can meet the above requirement, they may submit a statement of capabilities. All information furnished shall be in writing and must contain sufficient detail to allow the NCI to determine if it can meet the above unique specifications described herein. An original and one copy of the capability statement must be received in the NCI contracting office by 1:00 PM ET on August 21, 2007. All questions must be in writing and can be faxed (301) 402-4513 or emailed to Malinda Holdcraft, Contract Specialist at holdcram@exchange.nih.gov. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. In order to receive an award, contractors must have valid registration and certification in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) www.ccr.gov and the Online Representations and Certifications Applications (ORCA), http://orca.bpn.gov. No collect calls will be accepted. Please reference NCI-70114-NG on all correspondence.
