Description
Renewal chilled water piping insulation onboard CGC SHERMAN IAW the following statement of work: ITEM 1: CHILLED WATER SYSTEM INSULATION RENEWAL 1. SCOPE The intent of this item is to renew moldy lagging insulation in the designated compartments. Government Furnished Property: NONE 2. REFERENCES Coast Guard Drawings: 378-FRAM-W 801-1, Rev F; BOOKLET OF GENERAL PLANS 378-FRAM-W 635-1, Rev M; INSULATION A&D 378 FRAM W 408-1, Rev C, INSULATION SCHEDULE 378-FRAM-W 514-1, Rev D, Hot & Chilled Water System Diagram Applicable Documents: COMDTINST M10360.3C, Coatings and Colors Manual MIL-STD-769(SH), Rev J; Thermal Insulation Requirements for Machinery and Piping, 10/9/90 Naval Ships' Technical Manual, Chapter 635, Thermal, Fire and Acoustic Insulation Steel Structures Painting Council, SSPC-SP 3, Power Tool Cleaning, 9/1/00 3. REQUIREMENTS The Contractor shall provide all labor and material to accomplish removal, disposal, and renewal of all moldy chilled water system insulation in the concerned work areas listed in the General Requirements. 3.1. GENERAL 3.1.1. Develop an itemized list of insulation to be renewed, including pipe size and linear feet for each affected area. 3.1.2. Patterning and fabrication of insulation blankets for approximately 850 ft of pipe and associated valves and fixtures. 3.1.3. In the presence of the Coast Guard Inspector, inspect and test all affected equipment and systems to document original condition. Submit a CFR for each space noting any discrepancies in equipment and system operation. 3.1.4. Tag-Outs - Secure, isolate, and tag-out all affected mechanical, piping, and electrical systems in accordance with the General Requirements. The concerned work areas are listed below. See the CG Drawing(s) referenced above for a general arrangement of the work area. INTERFERENCES 3.2~1. Remove or protect all interferences to the work. Tag all interferences that are removed to facilitate proper reinstallation. Ensure that all removed equipment is kept in a clean, dry, protected location. Obtain verification from the Coast Guard Inspector for the protective measure taken for equipment not removed. 3.3. PREWORK SURVEY 3.3.1. Visually inspect and record all piping and valve stencils and markings in areas where lagging is to be renewed. 3.4. INSULATION REMOVAL 3.4.1. Remove insulation from the chilled water supply and return piping system in the designated work area(s) listed above. Dispose in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. 3.4.2. The total amount of insulation to be renewed is listed below: Eight hundred and fifty (850) linear feet of 3" and less piping - this insulation will be located in various areas along the 2nddeck, 1stdeck, and Pilot House, including the insulation on various valves and fittings. 3.5. SURFACE PREPARATION Note: The chilled water system piping is copper and will not require additional preservation prior to installing the new lagging. 3.5.1. Prepare all steel surfaces where insulation was removed by power tool cleaning in accordance with SSPC-SP3. 3.5.2. In the presence of the Coast Guard Inspector, inspect all prepared surfaces for deterioration or damage. Submit a CFR to the Coast Guard Inspector. 3.5.3. Upon verification of the surface preparation by the Coast Guard Inspector, coat the prepared surfaces in accordance with COMDTINST M10360.3. Apply the primer coats only. 3.6. INSTALLATION Install new insulation in place of the removed insulation. Install the new insulation in accordance with referenced CG Drawings and NSTM Chapter 635. 3.7. INSULATIONPRESERVATION 3.7.1. Prepare and coat all new insulation material in accordance with . COMDTINSTM10360.3CB.Final topcoat shall match original existing color. 3.7.2. Restore all piping stencils as original. 3.8. LAGGING REPAIR ACCEPT ACE 3.8.1. After completion of lagging repairs and renewal, walk the spaces where lagging was repaired or renewed in conjunction with the Coast Guard Inspector and verify that all lagging was renewed, that lagging has been properly recoated, and that all stencils have been restored. 3.9. COMPARTMENT RESTORATION 3.9.1. Restore all interferences previously removed or protected. 3.9.2. Restore all affected work areas to a clean condition. 3.9.3. Clearing Tags - Restore all affected systems and clear tags in accordance with the General Requirements. 3.9.4. Coordinate all inspections with the designated Coast Guard Inspector to minimize production delays. Copies of all referenced drawings and manuals are available for review on board CGC SHERMAN. Contractors are strongly urged to shipcheck the scope of these repairs onboard the cutter. The POC for arranging ship checks ENS Trapp. Contact ENS Trapp at (510) 437-3456.
