- Description
- The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division is seeking information pertaining to non-pyrotechnic signal devices to be used onboard U.S. Navy inflatable life rafts. Devices may be tested for suitability to replace the pyrotechnic signals (flares) currently in use. Candidate devices should be powered by a lithium battery with a shelf-life of at least eight years. A common, off-the-shelf, lithium battery power source is preferred. The types of devices may be a flashing strobe, laser emitting, or other illuminating device in the human visual range. These devices should be able to withstand the rigors of a marine environment, or be potentially able to survive the impact when packed inside a 25-person life raft that is dropped into the water from a height of 65 feet (20 meters). The device(s), with batteries removed, should not be considered hazardous material. The devices should be able to work at any time during the five-year service cycle of the life raft. Devic es which have a proven record of field use are preferred. This source of sought announcement does not constitute an Invitation for Bids (IFB), a Request for Quote (RFQ), or a Request for Proposal (RFP) and it should not be construed as a commitment of any kind by the Government to issue a formal solicitation or ultimately award a contract. The U.S. Government is in no way liable to pay for or reimburse any companies or entities that respond to this announcement. Any costs incurred by interested companies in response to this announcement or incurred for participation in the pre-solicitation conference will NOT be reimbursed.
