- Description
- The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division is seeking information pertaining to lighting systems used on inflatable life rafts. The lighting system should consist of an exterior flashing beacon with a minimum visibility of two nautical miles and an interior light with sufficient brightness to be able to read. Both lights must have a minimum total illumination duration of 12 hours or greater. Both lights must be able to be automatically turned on during the inflation sequence of the life raft. Both lights must be able to be turned off during daylight hours. It is preferred that the lights are actuated by means of a pull lanyard and that they use a common off-the-shelf lithium battery. The lights must be able to operate in temperature extremes of -22?F to 160?F and survive the impact of the packed life raft being dropped from a height of 65 feet into water. The lighting system should be able to work at any time during the five-year service cycle of the life raf t. Systems or system components which have a proven record of field use are preferred.
