Description
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) plans to procure the ?brand name? Cisco router products to support existing Cisco hardware infrastructure that is installed and in production for the USPTO?s automated information systems (AISs). This announcement is considered a ?brand name? justification. This acquisition will be conducted utilizing Part 13 of the FAR, Simplified Acquisition procedures, and the test program authorized in FAR subpart 13.5, and the Patent and Trademark Acquisition Guidelines (PTAG). The acquisition will be conducted utilizing existing IDIQ contractors for Information Technology products within the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Cisco was selected as the new Technical Reference Model standard for USPTO after a market survey and lab evaluation. The Cisco family is a versatile platform and consists of the commercially available models that best meet the hybrid environments, security requirements, reliability and compatibility. Since the existing routers are Cisco, compatibility is the most important reason to maintain the continuity of the network traffic and keeping this critical business running. In addition, purchase of the similar hardware will reduce and/or share the cost of spare parts with other network project and save the maintenance cost by not maintaining different similar functioning products. Furthermore, the purchase of different hardware will require additional component, system, reliability and compatibility testing. These new tests will cost the project time and money while the current budget does not permit.. If you have questions regarding this notice, they may be addressed by email to connie.lum@uspto.gov.
