Opportunity is to propose automated fabrication process for new design Bandoleer Bag and continue to automatically load cardboard point protectors with 5.56 mm bullet clips into Bandoleers Bags. Goal is to modernize manufacturing proc ess, increase bullet production capacity, reduce handling, waste and transportation costs and improve Quality Control over and above current Bandoleer delivery and packaging system. Point Protector is 2 ? inches wide x 4 inches high capable of holding thre e ten-round 5.56 mm clips. Bandoleer is textile based bag with overall size of 11 inches wide x 10 inches long including 2 inch pocket flap allowing capability to load protectors into each pocket. Pocket flap covers main pocket bodies about 3/8 inch. Bag design includes two separate pockets capable of holding two point protectors per pocket, four total. Bandoleer requires single 53-in strap capable of holding strength at 200 lbs. All Bandoleer seams shall be min. of 35 lbs / inch. Textiles may be Woven or Nonwoven consisting of Nylon, Polyester, Cotton or synthetic blends of Cotton. Materials require strict chemical resistance and temperature gradient at -65 F with 'No Cold Cracking'. Seam testing shall be ASTM TM-D 1683, 'Failure in sewn seams of woven apparel fabrics'. All sewn or stitchless seams shall be specified via ASTM D-6193 'Std Practice for Stitches and Seams'. Projected output p roduction for automated system shall be capable of producing min of 300,000 to max of 500,000 Bandoleer units and loading over 1 Million point protector units into bags per month. Intention is have taskings in two phases, with first phase being paper study indicating feasibility, risk, automation concept(s) and associated implementation costs and savings.
