Description
This requirement is being procured in accordance with FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The office of NOAA, National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) located in Seattle, WA intends to acquire services for Analysis of fall, winter, and spring predation of key Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska groundfish through stable isotope analysis. The period of performance is from date of award through September 30, 2008. BACKGROUND This project a specific, funded component of North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) Project #622 (funded in full in 2006) entitled Analysis of fall, winter, and spring predation of key Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska groundfish through food habits and stable isotope analysis. PROJECT DESCRIPTION/STATEMENT OF WORK Stable isotope analysis for C and N will be performed for 14 prey and predator species, with 60-70 tissue samples per species per quarter collected during 2006-2007 from AFSC field surveys and observer collections as described in the NPRB Project #622 research plan. The total number would result in the analysis of 3,900 samples. Samples will be sent to the contracted lab. At the lab, each sample will be chemically cleaned, ground and weighed prior to analysis for delta-15N, delta-13C, %C, %N, and C/N. Sufficient duplicated (every 10-12th sample) and standards will be analyzed by the laboratory at no extra cost. The resulting data will be sent within 8 weeks of the date that the laboratory receives the samples. In the data file will be the results of quality assurance and quality control. DELIVERABLES Datafile that includes delta-15N, delta-13C, %C, %N, and C/N for each tissue sample delivered to the laboratory in an unprocessed state, as well as data on quality control and quality assurance (duplicates and standards). If delta-18O samples are identified during the later stages, these will be similarly provided. The datafile will be delivered both electronically and in hardcopy. This is a simplified acquisition with an estimated value of less than $100,000
