- Western Area Power Administration intends to acquire, on a sole source basis, stringing blocks under the authority FAR 6.302-1. Western believes Sherman & Reilly, Inc is the only known source that can provide these Blocks. These specific stringing blocks are needed and required for a number of reasons: 1) the maximum working load of 12,000 pounds is necessary to accommodate our larger diameter, tighter strung conductors, 2) the extra wide throat is critical in order to have the gaitor (OPGW stringing) easily pass through the stringing block, and 3) convenience features of lighter weight, neoprene lined and having the block support the wire when the gate is open makes these units very efficient and effective for our stringing operation.
